Two Carolina Golfers To Play In U.S. Women's Amateur

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Two University of North Carolina women's golfers will be playing in the 2011 U.S. Women's Amateur which will be played August 8-14 at Rhode Island Country Club in Barrington, R.I. Casey Grice and Courtney Gunter are the Tar Heels who will be among the competitors.
Grice, a rising sophomore from College Station, Texas, carded three top-10 and five top-25 finishes for the Tar Heels last year. Grice tied for second place at the Cougar Classic, her first tournament as a Tar Heel, firing a 3-under-par 213 total. She tied for third place at The Landfall Tradition and tied for seventh place at the ACC Championships, helping lead Carolina to the team title.
Gunter, a rising junior from Matthews, N.C., posted two top-20 finishes for the Tar Heels last year. Her low finish was a tie for sixth place at the Cougar Classic and she tied for 19th place at the Tar Heel Invitational. In 2010, Gunter was selected a National Golf Coaches Association All-America Scholar and was named to the All-ACC Academic Women's Golf Team.
Rhode Island Country Club, celebrating its 100th anniversary, was designed by Donald Ross. It will play to a par 71 and will be set up as a 6,399-yard layout during the stroke play rounds and a 6,350-yard layout during the match play rounds. Monday and Tuesday will be two rounds of stroke play with match play beginning on Wednesday and continuing through Sunday with a 36-hole championship final. This marks the fourth time the U.S. Women's Amateur will be played at Rhode Island Country Club.
