Two Carolina Golfers Advance At U.S. Women's Amateur

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Two University of North Carolina women's golfers, Casey Grice and Courtney Gunter, advanced to match play at the 2011 U.S. Women's Amateur which is being played at Rhode Island Country Club in Barrington, R.I., a par 71, 6,399-yard layout during stroke play.
Grice, a rising sophomore from College Station, Texas, fired a three-under-par 139 during the two stroke play rounds. Grice is currently in fifth place with about half the field still on the course. She carded a 1-over 72 on Monday followed by a 4-under 67 on Tuesday.
Gunter, a rising junior from Matthews, N.C., fired an even par 142 total during stroke play and tied for 11th place with about half the field completing play. She fired a 1-under 70 on Monday followed by a 1-over 72 on Tuesday.
Rhode Island Country Club, celebrating its 100th anniversary, was designed by Donald Ross. Match play begins on Wednesday and continues through Sunday with a 36-hole championship final. This marks the fourth time the U.S. Women's Amateur will be played at Rhode Island Country Club.
