Bernard Named Tar Heel Performer Of The Week

Giovani Bernard, a freshman tailback on the Tar Heel football team, is the Tar Heel Performer of the Week for September 5-11, 2011. Bernard's two rushing touchdowns led Carolina past Rutgers 24-22 last Saturday.

Redshirt freshman tailback Giovani Bernardrushed for 81 yards on 16 carries and scored two touchdowns, his third and fourth of the season. He also caught four passes for 22 yards. Bernard's 60-yard touchdown run in the second quarter gave Carolina a 14-6 lead. It is the longest run by a Tar Heel since Johnny White's 67-yard score against William & Mary in 2010. Bernard added a 6-yard TD run in the third quarter to extend UNC's lead to 24-15.

Jaclyn Gaudioso Radvany scored two goals in each game as the Tar Heels (5-0) picked up a pair of shutout wins away from home last weekend. Friday at Delaware, she scored the first two goals against the Blue Hens, both within the first 17 minutes of play, in a 6-0 win. On Sunday in a neutral-site game against Lafayette, she scored the fifth and sixth goals, both in the first six minutes after halftime. On the season she now has five goals, tied for second on the team.

Tallied 41 kills with a .352 hitting percentage in the 2011 Carolina Classic. Earned all-tournament team honors. Also posted 23 digs during the tournament. She helped lead the Tar Heels to a 2-1 record and second-place finish in the Carolina Classic.
