UNC Head Coach Roy Williams
Opening Statement:
"Well, we're extremely happy with the win. At times we were really good defensively and the bottom line on the ugly part of the game we just didn't make any shots. I said earlier I thought we were going to be a big-time shooting team and we showed that through part of the season but didn't show it tonight. I told the kids I really think nine home games in a row is really good because we won nine games. But I do think we perhaps got a little complacent and thought things were going to be easy. And we really are a good shooting team, we can shoot the basketball but we didn't shoot it very well tonight.
"Last game I talked about our big guys had great shooting percentages and this time it was Dexter (Strickland) and Kendall (Marshall). I like that part of it, that different people can hurt you on a different night. All in all it's a win. I'm happy about that and again I think defensively at times we really did some nice things but just didn't shoot the ball on whole as well as we would've liked. But it's a conference win so we're pleased and will enjoy this one until midnight then we'll start thinking about what comes next."
Miami Head Coach Jim Larranaga
Opening Statement
"I thought Carolina was very, very sharp, especially on the defensive end of the floor. They took our perimeter players right out of our offense. Right from the first TV timeout on, we only had one field goal from our guards in the first half. They executed very well offensively. We didn't really challenge them at the rim like we expected to. Falling behind by fifteen and then them scoring the first six points of the second half really set the tone and we never really had a chance."
On Carolina's Size:
"I think their size and athletic ability and especially their length is certainly a factor, but I thought when we did what we planned on doing and got the ball inside, I thought our big guys could score. It was our guard play and a lack of getting quality shots from them, and we're going to have to really work on that to become a better offensive team."
UNC Players
Dexter Strickland:
On playing their next game on the road:
"We have only had three games on the road so far, in Vegas and at Kentucky. So I think it might be a challenge but I think we are ready for it. This team is pumped up to play on the road."
On his offense:
"One thing I am working on is my confidence. I'm working out every day and every night and just my confidence alone and me believing in myself and knowing that I can knock down a shot has helped. Kendall has been doing the same and I think it's working out pretty well for us."
Kendall Marshall:
On matching up with Miami's guards:
"First of all, you have to give a lot of credit to Dexter. They are both great guards. Malcolm shoots the ball very well. Durand Scott gets to the basket very well and finishes and he started to get hot in the second half. But overall, I think me, Dexter, Reggie, and Harrison did a great job of slowing them down."
On the offensive contribution from the backcourt:
"It's just a matter of taking what the defense gives us. Dexter and I did a great job of finishing at the rim but it also has to do with getting stops on defense so it's easier to get out on offense. It's a matter of the bigs doing a great job of setting screens so it was a great team effort."
John Henson:
On the upcoming road games:
"I think it's a great thing we're developing. We're on the road Saturday, so we'll see how comfortable we really are as a team. I think that it will be a test. We've been home for a long time, so I think it will be a test for us."
Reggie Bullock:
On the shooting game:
"We just have to keep shooting with confidence. We've got great shooters with me, P.J. [Hairston], Harrison [Barnes], and Kendall [Marshall], so we just need to keep shooting with confidence- just believing in each other, making that extra pass to find an open teammate, and knocking a shot down when it comes to us."
