November 30, 2012 | Women's Golf
DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. - Former University of North Carolina golfer Meaghan Francella is tied for 32nd place after two rounds of LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament. Francella fired rounds of 73-72 in the first two rounds for a 1-over-par 145 total. The event, being played on the par 72 Legends and Champions layouts at LPGA International, continues through Sunday.
Francella won two LPGA tournaments earlier in her career - the 2010 HSBC LPGA Brasil Cup and the 2007 MasterCard Classic Honoring Alejo Peralta Presented by Televisa Deportes. In 2009, she tied for fifth place at the Kraft Nabisco Championship, which matched her best finish at a major championship. After a down year, Francella found herself competing to regain her LPGA playing privileges and she is coming back with a vengeance.
The top 20 players at the conclusion of the event will earn Priority in Category 12. Players finishing in the 21st-45th spots will earn Priority in Category 17. In the event of a tie for 20th place, the 20th position will be determined by a playoff. All other ties will be broken on the basis of the lowest, most recent round at the Final Qualifying Tournament.
Francella was a two-time golf letterwinner for the Tar Heels, playing on the 2003 and 2004 golf teams. She was selected to the All-ACC team in 2003 and 2004 and was a 2004 All-America.
