Spingola Named ACC Pitcher of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C.--North Carolina sophomore pitcher, Lori Spingola, was named Atlantic Coast Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week the conference announced Tuesday. Virginia Tech's first baseman Courtney Liddle was named ACC Player of the Week.
Spingola tossed 16.0 innings as the Tar Heels went 3-0 in games she pitched. The sophomore from Atlanta, Ga., did not allow a run and struck out 25 of the 65 batters she faced while only allowing nine hits. She picked up a complete game shutout against North Florida in the opening game of the season Feb. 10 at the National Invitational Tournament in Clermont, Fla., and then threw nine innings of scoreless ball against Chattanooga and Ohio State the following day.
This marks Spingola's fifth time receiving pitcher of the week honors, also having been named four times in her freshman campaign of 2011.
UNC completed its opening weekend a perfect 4-0, defeating North Florida, Florida Atlantic, Chattanooga and Ohio State. The Tar Heels return to action this weekend in the eighth annual Mardi Gras Classic from Lafayette, La.
