Tar Heel Trio Named To All-Tournament Team

2012 Season Preview
LAFAYETTE, La.--Sara Buchholz, Logan Foulks and Lori Spingola were named to the 8th Annual Mardi Gras All-Tournament team for their efforts in propelling No. 25 North Carolina to a 3-0 record over the weekend. The Tar Heels are 7-0 on the season.
Foulks compiled a .333 batting average for the tournament, tallying three hits, two home runs and three RBI. With the score knotted at 6-6 against UTEP in the Tar Heels first game of the weekend, Foulks led off the bottom of the seventh with a walk-off home run down the right field line. Foulks is tied for the most home runs on the team (3) and has posted a team-high eight RBI through the first seven games.
Spingola made two starts for Carolina at Lamson Park, picking up two more wins to improve to 5-0 on the year. Spingola pitched a total of 14 innings and gave up 13 hits, six walks, only three earned runs and struck out 25 batters. The Atlanta, Ga., native has recorded double-digit strikeouts in each of her four starts this season.
Buchholz persevered through a halted game Friday, Feb. 17, against Northwestern State. The game against the Demons was halted due to rain and was completed the morning of Feb . 19. The sophomore from Miami, Fla., showed poise to throw a two-hit shutout and improve to 2-0 on the season.
Carolina returns to action Saturday, Feb. 25, against Notre Dame at 12:30 p.m. and Minnesota at 3 p.m. as they host the 2012 Carolina Classic at Anderson Stadium in Chapel Hill.
