Carolina Golfers Third At LSU Golf Classic

BATON ROUGE, LA. - The University of North Carolina women's golf team is in third place of the LSU Golf Classic after carding a 12-over-par 300 in the second round for a 25-over 601 total. Senior Catherine O'Donnell fired a 1-under-par 71 and is just one stroke behind the individual leader.
O'Donnell, from Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., carded three birdies and two bogies en route to her 1-under-par 71 and is in second place, just one stroke behind second-round leader Madeline Sagstrom of LSU. O'Donnell has a 1-under 143 total while Sagstrom is at 2-under 142 after also posting a 71 in the second round.
Tar Heel sophomores Casey Grice and Katherine Perry both carded a 5-over 77 on Saturday. Grice, from College Station, Texas, is in 23rd place at 8-over 152 while Perry, from Cary, N.C., is tied for 26th at 9-over 153. Junior Courtney Gunter, from Matthews, N.C., is playing as an individual and is tied for 36th at 155 after posting a 78 in the second round. Jackie Chang, a sophomore from Paradise Valley, Ariz., carded a 75 for a 12-over 156 total and is tied for 41st while Allie White, a senior from Lancaster, Ohio, shot 80 for a 158 total and is tied for 48th.
Host LSU and Tennessee lead the field 14 teams at 11-over-par 587. Tennessee fired a 1-over 289 in the second round while LSU carded a 4-over 292. Carolina and Vanderbilt are 14 strokes back in a tie for third place with 601 totals. Virginia is in fifth place with a 608 total while Kentucky is sixth at 614 and TCU is seventh at 620.
Following LSU's Sagstrom and Carolina's O'Donnell in the individual standings is Lauren Stratton of Vanderbilt who is one stroke behind O'Donnell in third place at even par 144. Marina Alex of Vanderbilt and Erica Popson of Tennessee are tied for fourth place at 1-over 145 while LSU's Austin Ernst and Tennessee's Sara Monberg are tied for sixth place with 146 totals.
The final round of the 54-hole event will be played Sunday at The University Club which features a par 72, 6,305-yard layout. Live scoring is available on Golfstat.com.
