Tar Heels Head To Maryland For ACC Series

No. 4 North Carolina will take to the road for the second straight weekend when the Tar Heels head north to face Maryland. The Tar Heels swept a back-and-forth series at No. 17 Clemson a week ago, while Maryland was swept by Wake Forest in Winston-Salem, N.C. Carolina will be wrapping up a pair of busy weeks as the Tar Heels will be playing 10 games in 13 days by the conclusion of the series. The Tar Heels are looking to move to 4-0 to start the ACC season for the first time since 2002 when Carolina won eight straight to open the ACC season.
National Rankings Carolina moved up in every poll after the series sweep at Clemson a week ago. The Tar Heels are No. 4 in the NCBWA, Collegiate Baseball, Perfect Game and the USA Today/ESPN Poll this week. Baseball America put the Tar Heels in the top 5 as well when the publication tabbed Carolina No. 5. Maryland was ranked among the top 25 teams in the country going into the opening series at Wake Forest but slipped out of the rankings after getting swept by the Demon Deacons.
North Carolina-Maryland Series Carolina owns a 131-53-2 advantage over the Terps since the series began in 1899. Head Coach Mike Fox owns a 33-8 overall record against Maryland since taking over the Tar Heels in 1999. Fox has posted a 16-5 mark in College Park as well. Carolina has won 13 of the last 15 meetings against Maryland and have come out on top in 10 straight series. The Tar Heels swept the Terps in a narrow series in Chapel Hill a year ago as Carolina claimed 5-0, 5-4 and 8-4 wins. Colin Moran paced the offense a year ago as he earned ACC Player of the Week honors after going 7-for-10 in the series with five runs scored, six RBI and five extra base hits. Junior right-handers Michael Morin and Chris Munnelly each picked up wins in the series sweep for the Tar Heels.
