Spingola Named ACC Pitcher Of The Week

GREENSBORO, N.C.-- North Carolina sophomore pitcher, Lori Spingola, was named Atlantic Coast Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week the conference announced Tuesday. Georgia Tech's third baseman Kelsi Weseman was named ACC Player of the Week.
Spingola went 4-0 with four complete games and two shutouts. She only allowed 15 hits and two earned runs in 28.0 innings pitched while striking out 30. The native of Atlanta, Ga., posted an ERA of 0.50 as the Tar Heels improved to 21-8 and won their first conference series against Virginia Tech. Spingola is tied for second nationally with 15 total victories in 2012 and is tied for third with seven shutouts this far.
This marks Spingola's sixth time receiving pitcher of the week honors in her career, also having been earlier this season on Feb 14 as well as four times in her freshman campaign of 2011.
Carolina is off to its best start since 2009, posting a 21-8 ledger to begin the season. The Tar Heels are coming off a conference-opening series victory at Virginia Tech and welcomes South Carolina Wednesday at 5 p.m. from Anderson Stadium.
