Carolina Football Scrimmage Set For Charlotte On April 5

Chapel Hill, N.C. - The North Carolina football team will hold an open scrimmage Thursday, April 5 at Mallard Creek High School in Charlotte, N.C. The festivities begin with a pre-scrimmage tailgate at 5 p.m., featuring an appearance by head coach Larry Fedora. The scrimmage starts at 6:30 p.m. and will last approximately two hours.
"This is a great opportunity to take our team to our fans in the Charlotte area," says Fedora, who first began taking spring practices off campus when he was the head coach at Southern Miss. "Charlotte and the surrounding areas are important to our football program in many aspects. We will explore taking spring practices to other areas of the state in the future."
The Rams Club and UNC Athletic Department are sponsoring the tailgate event. Bojangles' food, Chapel Hill Sportswear merchandise and UNC season football tickets will be available for purchase throughout the evening. Fedora will address the fans at the tailgate at approximately 5:45 p.m.
Mallard Creek High School is located at 3825 Johnston Oehler Road, Charlotte, N.C. From I-85, take exit 49 (Concord Mills Boulevard) and head north. Turn left on Derita Road and continue onto Odell School Road/State Road 2464. Turn right on Mallard Creek Road and take the second right on Johnston Oehler Road. Mallard Creek High School will be on the left. Free parking is available at Mallard Creek.
The 2012 Tar Heels return 39 lettermen and 13 starters, including eight on offense and five on defense. Offensively, Carolina returns record-setting quarterback Bryn Renner (26 touchdown passes), tailback Giovani Bernard (UNC freshman record 1,253 rushing yards) and four of five starters on the offensive line. Linebacker Kevin Reddick (three-year starter) and defensive tackle Sylvester Williams (54 tackles, 7.0 tackles for losses) headline the defense.
Carolina will hold its annual Spring Game on Saturday, April 14 at Kenan Stadium. Admission is free.
