Carolina Golfers Third At LSU Golf Classic

BATON ROUGE, LA. - The University of North Carolina women's golf team is in third place of the LSU Golf Classic after carding a 13-over-par 301 in the first round that included a two-hour delay due to inclement weather. Senior Catherine O'Donnell led the Tar Heels by firing an even par 72.
O'Donnell, from Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., carded three birdies and three bogies en route to her even par score and is tied for third place in the individual race. Two other Tar Heels, sophomores Casey Grice and Katherine Perry, are also in the top 20. Grice, from College Station, Texas, carded a 3-over 75 and is tied for 13th place while Perry, from Cary, N.C. is one stroke back at 76 in a tie for 17th. Senior Allie White, from Lancaster, Ohio, carded a 78 and is tied for 35th while Jackie Chang, a sophomore from Paradise Valley, Ariz., shot an 81 and is tied for 57th. Courtney Gunter, a junior from Matthews, N.C., is competing as an individual and is tied for 27th after shooting a 77.
Host LSU leads the field of 18 teams by firing a 7-over-par 295. Tennessee is three shots back in second place at 10-over 298 while the Tar Heels are another three shots back at 13-over 301. Vanderbilt is in fourth place at 302 while Virginia is fifth at 304, TCU is sixth at 306 and NC State is seventh at 308.
Marina Alex of Vanderbilt grabbed the individual lead after firing a 2-under-par 70. Madalene Sagstrom of LSU is one stroke back in second place at 71 while fourth players are tied for third place at even par 72 - Carolina's O'Donnell, TCU's Brooke Beeler, Virginia Lauren Greenlief and Vanderbilt's Lauren Stratton.
The 54-hole event continues through Sunday at The University Club which features a par 72, 6,305-yard layout. Live scoring is available on Golfstat.com.
