Carolina Golfers Second At ACC Championships

GREENSBORO, N.C.The No. 6 ranked University of North Carolina women's golf team is in second place after the first round of the 2012 ACC Championships being played at Sedgefield Country Club. The Tar Heels fired a 6-over-par 290, led by even par rounds from Katherine Perry and Allie White.
"Overall I thought we had a fairly good day," said Tar Heel head coach Jan Mann. "Duke obviously played very well today. We left some shots out there, particualy on par 5's that I feel like we can improve upon tomorrow. Overall I think the girls played well and we'll see what happens tomorrow."
Perry, a sophomore from Cary, N.C., closed her round with birdies on three of her final four holes to finish at even-par. White, a senior from Lancaster, Ohio, had one birdie and one bogey on the day for her even-par round. White and Perry are tied for fifth place. Casey Grice, a sophomore from College Station, Texas, and Catherine O'Donnell, a senior from Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., are tied for 11th place after 3-over-par rounds of 74. Jackie Chang, a sophomore from Paradise Valley, Ariz., shot a 5-over-par 76 and is in a tie for 19th place.
Duke leads after the first day of the ACC Championships after shooting a 4-under-par 280. Carolina is 10 shots back of Duke at 6-over-par 290. Wake Forest is in third place at 14-over-par 298. NC State is fourth at 15-over-par 299, Boston College is in fifth at 17-over-par 301, Virginia is sixth at 19-over-par 303, Maryland is in seventh at 23-over-par 307 while Florida State and Miami are tied for eighth at 24-over-par 308 to round out the field.
Alejandra Cangrejo of Duke grabbed the individual lead after firing a 2-under-par 69. Three players are tied for second at 1-under-par 70 - Duke's Lindy Duncan and Stacey Kim, and Wake Forest's Olafia Kristinsdottir. Duke's Laetitia Beck is tied with Carolina's Katherine Perry and Allie White for fifth place. Katia Joo of Boston College is in eighth place after a 1-over-par 72. Marissa Dodd of Wake Forest and Brittany Marchand of NC State round out the top 10 with a pair of 2-over-par 73's and are tied for ninth place.
This year's ACC Championships is being played at Sedgefield Country Club which features a par 71, 6,163-yard layout. The 54-hole event continues through Sunday. Live scoring will be available at TarHeelBlue.com and GolfStat.com as well as live webstreaming from TheACC.com on Saturday and Sunday from 1:30 p.m. until the conclusion of play.
