Grice Named Tar Heel Performer Of The Week

Casey Grice of the Carolina women's golf team has been named the Tar Heel Performer of the Week for April 9-15, 2012. She led the Tar Heels to a runner-up finish at the ACC Championships this past weekend and she finished fifth in the individual race.

Casey Grice led the Tar Heels to a runner-up finish at the ACC Championships a she finished fifth in the individual race. Grice led the Tar Heels in the final round by firing a 1-under-par 70 on the par 71, 6,224-yard layout at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C. She carded 74-73 in the first two rounds and her 4-over 217 total was seven strokes behind the champion. The Tar Heels now await a bid to NCAA Regionals which will be played May 10-12.

Lynch scored a game-high three goals as the third-ranked Tar Heels dropped a tight, 8-7 decision at top-ranked Northwestern on Friday night. Two of her goals came in the first half as the Tar Heels took an early lead. She then scored a goal in the final minute as Carolina tried to rally from behind against the Wildcats. Lynch also won three draws and controlled a ground ball.

Junior attackman Marcus Holman had career highs for goals in a game with five and for points in a game with seven as he led the eighth-ranked North Carolina men's lacrosse team to a 12-9 victory over Hofstra in the 2012 ESPNU Warrior Classic in Charlotte. Holman had four of his five goals and one of his assists in the second half as the Tar Heels outscored the Pride 8-4, including a 5-0 scoring run over the last 13 minutes of the game, to rally from two goals down for the win.
JAVONTE LIPSEY

Javonte Lipsey ran the fastest time in the NCAA for a freshman this season and was the top collegiate finisher in the men's 400-meter hurdles Saturday at the Kent Taylor-Joe Hilton Invitational at UNC. Lipsey finished third overall in 51.22, which is also a personal-best in the event. He also teamed with freshman Sean Sutton, sophomore Roy Smith and junior Reynaldo Radlin to win the 4x400 in the Tar Heel's best finish of the season, 4:10.00.

Senior Zoey Russell grabbed two wins Saturday at the Kent Taylor-Joe Hilton Invitational in her final home meet for Carolina. She teamed with fellow seniors Jacinda Evans and Malai Walker, and freshman Iman Wilkerson to take first in the 4x100 in 45.71, and also finished first in the 400 in 54.74.
