Carolina's Hernandez Shares Final ACC Player of Week Accolade

GREENSBORO, N.C. - North Carolina junior Jose Hernandez and Maryland freshman Vlad Stefan have been named the final Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Tennis Players of the Week for the 2012 season.
Hernandez, of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, was honored for the second time in three weeks. The 33rd-ranked Hernandez's 2-6, 6-1, 7-5 win over fourth-ranked Henrique Cunha helped spark a closing flurry that lifted the Tar Heels to the one-point win over the Blue Devils. Earlier in the match, the 30th-ranked team of Hernandez and Joey Burkhardt had combined for an 8-1 win over the No. 28 team of Cunha and Mengel in No. 1 doubles. Hernandez was a bright spot for UNC in Sunday's loss at Maryland, scoring a singles win over Maros Horny on the No. 1 court.
Carolina opens play in the ACC Tournament on Friday at 12 noon. The Tar Heels are the #2 seed in the event at Cary, N.C. UNC will play the winner of a firstr-ound tournament match on Thursday between Clemson and Wake Forest.
