CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - No. 3 North Carolina will host Elon in a midweek contest Wednesday night at Boshamer Stadium at 6 p.m. Junior right-hander Cody Penny will take the mound for the Tar Heels in his second straight midweek start as UNC goes for the series win over the Phoenix after winning at Elon, 3-0, on March 7.
Last Week
The Tar Heels went 3-1 on the week by capping off a series win over NC State Monday night with a 7-4 win over the rival Wolfpack thanks to home runs from Tommy Coyle and Jacob Stallings.
A midweek comeback win against No. 25 Coastal Carolina on Wednesday saw Cody Stubbs hit a game-tying home run in the bottom of the ninth before the Tar Heels scored the game winner in the 10th for a 7-6 win.
For a second straight week the Tar Heels dropped the opening contest of a weekend ACC series when Wake Forest won a 7-6 Friday night tilt in 12 innings before bouncing back with a 7-3 win on Saturday and a 4-3 win Sunday to claim the series against the Demon Deacons.
Junior catcher Jacob Stallings earned ACC Co-Player of the Week honors after pacing the Tar Heels with a .444 average and five doubles, including a career high three against Wake Forest on Saturday.
Pitching Matchup
Carolina - RHP Cody Penny: Junior right-hander Cody Penny will be making his second career start against Elon on Wednesday after tossing 4.1 innings against Coastal Carolina a week ago. Penny did not earn a decision against the Chanticleers but allowed just one earned run in the start, while striking out four batters. Penny is 0-0 on the year with a 6.23 ERA.
Elon - RHP Jim Stokes: Sophomore right-hander Jim Stokes will face the Tar Heels for the second time this season after starting the March 7 contest against UNC. Stokes allowed two runs, one earned on four hits over five innings of work in the 3-0 UNC win. For the year Stokes is 1-2 with a 3.51 ERA in seven appearances with six starts for the Phoenix.
Previous Meeting
Freshman right-hander Benton Moss carried a shutout into the ninth at Elon on March 7 to register the win. Moss allowed just three hits, all infield singles, and struck out eight over 8.1 innings of work. Michael Morin notched the save for the Tar Heels and Tommy Coyle registered a pair of hits in the 3-0 win.

The Tar Heels will face a tough test this weekend when they travel to Coral Gables, Fla. to take on No. 9 Miami for a three-game series beginning Friday night at 7 p.m. Carolina sits atop the Atlantic Coast Conference Coastal Division standings after the opening four series of the conference season and is one game ahead of the second place Hurricanes.
Game times for the weekend are 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday with both games set to be televised by Comcast Sports South with the finale set for 1 p.m. on Sunday.
