Carolina Earns NCAA Tournament Bid To Athens Regional

<>CHAPEL HILL, N.C.--The 21st-ranked North Carolina softball team (41-13) was selected to the NCAA Women's College World Series' Athens. Ga. Regional by the NCAA Selection Committee Sunday night. The Tar Heels will be the second seed in the regional and will face the Georgia Southern Eagles Friday, May 18, at 2:30 p.m.
Carolina earned its 10th appearance in the NCAA Tournament in the last 12 years with this year's berth and head coach Donna Papa's Tar Heels tallied 40 wins for the sixth time in the last seven years.
Regional host Georgia (41-15) earned the No. 10 national seed and will face Big South Conference Champion Coastal Carolina (43-18). Georgia Southern defeated College of Charleston, 6-2, May 12, to earn an automatic bid. The conference championship for the Eagles was the third in program history and first since 2006.
The regional round of play features a four-team double elimination bracket. A total of 64 teams were selected to the NCAA Tournament with 30 conferences being awarded automatic qualification, while the remaining 34 slots were filled with at-large selections to complete the bracket.
The winner of the Athens Regional will advance to the Super Regionals to face the winner of the Knoxville, Tenn. Regional, which feature No. 7 national seed Tennessee, Miami (Oh), UAB and ACC foe Virginia Tech. The higher seed will host the Super Regional.

Tickets for the 2012 NCAA Athens Regional will go on sale May 14 at 9 a.m. ET. Fans can order NCAA Softball Athens Regional tickets in any of the following ways:

Will Call & Day of Game Sales At Jack Turner Softball Stadium:
Will call and ticket sales will move to Jack Turner Softball Stadium on Friday, May 18, and will open two hours before the first game.
