Wake Forest 28, North Carolina 27
- QB Bryn Renner was 23 for
39 for 271 yards with one touchdown and an interception. The touchdown was a 6-yard strike to tight end
Eric Ebron in the opening quarter. The 39 attempts were the second-most Renner
has thrown in a game.
- Renner moved past three
former Tar Heels to move into eighth place in career passing yards at UNC with
3,607. He passed Scott Stankavage (3,363), Kevin Anthony (3,412) and Mark Maye
(3,459).
- Renner now has 277
completions and passed Maye (263) and Stankavage (272) to move into ninth place
in UNC history in pass completions. Renner also tied Stankavage for fifth
all-time in touchdown passes with 30.
- Junior A.J. Blue made his
first career start at tailback in place of injured starter Giovani Bernard.
Blue came into today's game with 210 career rushing yards, but gained a
career-best 106 on 19 carries against the Deacs. His previous single-game high
was 39 yards against Elon last week.
- Redshirt freshman
tailback Romar Morris also gained a career high 70 yards rushing on 14 carries.
He had 49 yards last week against Elon. Morris scored his first collegiate
touchdown, a 4-yard run in the third quarter.
- PK Casey Barth made two
field goals today and established a school record for made field goals with 55.
He surpassed his brother Connor, who made 54 from 2004-07. The record-tying
kick was a 25-yarder in the third quarter, and the record-setter was a
30-yarder in the fourth.
- Barth also converted all
three of his PAT attempts on the day. Carolina has made 131 consecutive extra
points and Barth has made a school-record 93 in a row. Barth has made 127 extra
points, which is six shy of tying Jeff Hayes for the UNC record.
- TE Eric Ebron's 6-yard touchdown
catch was the second scoring reception of his career.
- OG Jonathan Cooper started
his 37th career game Saturday, most among active offensive linemen in the ACC
and fifth-most among all current ACC players.
- Wake Forest's Michael
Campanaro caught 13 passes for 164 yards. The 13 receptions equal the
second-most in a game against UNC. The record is 14 by Duke's Jon Jensen in
1994. Mohamed Sanu of Rutgers also had 13 last year.
- The last time Wake Forest beat the Tar Heels by a point was a 32-31 Deacon victory in Chapel Hill in 2001. Today was the first time UNC lost by a single point at Wake Forest since a 14-13 loss in 1970.
