Miami 27, North
Carolina 23
• Carolina led 17-13 at halftime. Prior to Thursday, Miami had outscored its five opponents 135-33 in the first half. The Hurricanes had allowed just three points in the second quarter in five games before the Tar Heels scored 10.
• QB Bryn Renner completed 28 of 36 passes for 297 yards and a touchdown. Renner now has 62 career touchdown passes, six shy of UNC's all-time mark of 68 set by Darian Durant from 2001-04.
Renner completed 28 passes for his second straight game (also vs. East Carolina), which equal his third-most in any game.
• Renner established a new single-game UNC record for consecutive completions with 15, breaking the previous record of 14 set by Kevin Anthony vs. Wake Forest in 1985, Jason Stanicek vs. NC State in 1992 and Renner against James Madison in 2011. Renner also holds the overall record with 19 straight completions across two games in 2011.
• Renner now has 7,870 career passing yards, good for 23rd all-time in the ACC. Renner passed Florida State's E.J. Manuel (7,736) in tonight's game.
• QB Marquise Williams completed 4 of 7 passes for 98 yards and touchdown. His 71-yard scoring pass to Eric Ebron was his longest career completion and Carolina's longest play from scrimmage in 2013. Williams also rushed five times for 27 yards.
• TE Eric Ebron hauled in a career-high eight catches for a career-high 199 yards and his third touchdown of the season. Ebron scored on a 71-yard catch and run in the first quarter, his eighth career touchdown. He is now second in the country among tight ends with 88.7 yards per game.
• Ebron's 199 yards are a single-game UNC record for receiving yards by a tight end. The previous mark was 144, set by Tony Blanchard against Wake Forest in 1968.
• Ebron's 199 yards are the sixth-most receiving yards by any Tar Heel in a game.
• With 532 receiving yards this year, Ebron now holds the top two single-season receiving totals by a tight end in UNC history. He had a school-record 625 receiving yards on 40 catches (also a school record for TEs) in 2012.
• WR Quinshad Davis caught a season-high eight passes for 81 yards and a touchdown, his team-leading fifth of the season.
• OT James Hurst made his 42nd career start on Thursday, most among Tar Heel players. DE Kareem Martin (34 starts) and S Tre Boston (33) are second and third on the team in career starts, and QB Bryn Renner became the fourth Tar Heel to reach 30 career starts on Thursday.
• Boston picked up his third interception of the season and the 11th of his career in the first half. His 11 career interceptions rank seventh in UNC history.
• Safety Dominique Green tallied his two career interceptions Thursday, one in the first quarter and one in the fourth. The freshman also had six tackles (five solo).
• Norkeithus Otis had his first career interception in the third quarter, one of a season-high four picks for the Tar Heels.
• The Tar Heels had a season-high four interceptions in tonight's game.
• PK Thomas Moore kicked two extra points and is now 65 for 65 in his career. Carolina has made 191 consecutive extra points, including 126 by Casey Barth. Moore also tied a career high with three made field goals - a 25-yarder in the second quarter, a 35-yarder in the third quarter and a 22-yarder in the fourth quarter. Miami blocked Moore's first attempt from 47 yards and returned it for a touchdown.
• Miami's touchdown on a blocked field goal attempt by Thomas Moore was the first such play against the Tar Heels since Duke did that in 2004. It was the first blocked field goal of any kind by a UNC opponent since Virginia Tech in 2005.
• Freshman tailback T.J. Logan made his first collegiate start in just his second game of the season (missed the first four due to injury). Logan gained 61 yards on 16 carries and had two catches for 18 yards.
• Senior defensive end Kareem Martin had eight tackles, including four for losses of 18 yards, one of which was a 10-yard sack. He also had two quarterback hurries.
• The Tar Heels are now 6-6 in Thursday night games, 0-2 in Chapel Hill (FSU in 2009).
