UNC Caps Spring Break With Scrimmage

The North Carolina rowing team capped a week of spring training at Lake Lure, N.C., with a scrimmage Friday morning against George Mason. All five Tar Heel boats won their races, putting an exclamation point on a productive trip.
"We had a great week at Lake Lure," said UNC coach Sarah Haney. "We got a lot of work in and made some really good progress as far as boat speed and taking what we've been working on with the ergs during winter training and putting it to effect on the water. It was nice to see and it was great to be out there - we had beautiful weather and beautiful water.
"The scrimmage against George Mason was a really nice way to end the week. All our boats raced really well and felt good about what they put out on the water.
It's the first race of the season so there are obviously things we can work on, but overall we feel really good about what we did. Across the board, from all boats - second novice eight, novice eight, varsity four, second varsity eight and varsity eight - everybody just raced very well.
"It was a great way to end our training trip. We had a bunch of smiles on the way home, and we're looking forward to Old Dominion this weekend.
The Tar Heels travel to Norfolk, Va., this weekend to face the host Monarchs in racing on the Lafayette River.
