Larry Fedora Postgame Quotes
Opening Statement
"I'll be honest with you - good to get it over with. Our team had a great spring. We really did. We've come a long way. We've got a long way to go, but you got to see a few guys get out there and make some plays today. A lot of mistakes. A lot of guys. Anytime you split the team, you get real thin in a lot of areas, and it makes it that much tougher. The continuity is really hard. But the guys played hard today and that was the main thing."
On the running backs
"Really I thought all three of them played well. But Khris (Francis), for his first time out there in a game-type atmosphere, he did a good job. I don't know what he ended up with, but he hit some holes and exploded in them. One time I said I thought he got stood up. I said something to him and the next time he's got his shoulders down and he's running north-south. That's what he's got to do, so he did some nice things."
On Francis
"The thing about Khris is that Khris doesn't say a word. It's hard to get him to talk, but he's listening all the time. He takes coaching very well and he can. What he does a nice job of is you can say something and he can just take it to the field immediately and make it happen."
On the energy level
"It was really good today. You should always have a great energy level in today's type atmosphere. You've got all the things going out outside the stadium, inside the stadium. They saw the uniforms last night and they were jacked up about that. It was about them having fun today, and they did that."
On today's performance and moving forward
"I know we've got a long way to go. Up front on both sides of the ball we've still got to do a much better job. Defensively, we've got to stop the run. We were getting gassed in a lot of different areas. Offensively our tempo was very, very average to say the least. I didn't think there was anything special about it. You didn't see anything from our special teams today other than a few kicks and punts. We've got 138 days left. We've got a long way to go in 138 days."
Postgame Player Quotes
On the Receiving corp. during the game
"It's always a good day when nobody gets hurt. I feel like as a receiving corp. Everybody was out there making plays. A lot of guys were stepping up to the challenge [of playing in the receiving corp], we need everybody to be successful during the season."
On the system in the second year
"It's a whole lot easier this year. Last year was a tough road, but now I feel like now that we know the concepts and everything we can just go out there and play our game."
On the defensive line this year
"We lost Sylvester [Williams] but I feel like we have more depth than we did last year. We've got everybody returning except for Sylvester. At the defensive end we are a lot deeper. We are young, but we are still deep. We have definitely had to step up after Sly left and I think that the improvements we have made are a lot more than anyone would have expected."
On the second year in the defense
"Year 2, I think we are going to be a lot faster than we were last year because we know the defense a lot better, guys have played in it already and I think thus defense has the potential to be a top 20, top 10 defense in the country just because we know the defense better."
On today from the offensive side of the ball
"We had a lot of fun. Going into it Coach Fedora made it the main objective that we have fun and that we've had 14 good nights, let's make it a 15th. Offensively, I think we did okay. We are going to build on this summer because we've got a big game in 138 days."
On the second year
"It's morphed into where I can be a leader and coach guys when they do make a mistake. That's the big thing about being a quarterback. Last year, I don't think that I could do that, but I think that helps. I think we made a couple of changes in the offseason as far as how to go faster and it paid off being able to watch the film of how sometimes we could have pushed the ball in certain situations. I think that the sky is the limit; we have a ton of talent around me and a great offensive line."
