No. 25 UNC Sweeps UVA With 2-1 Win

CHAPEL HILL, NC - No. 25 Carolina swept the weekend series against Virginia with a 2-1 victory in game three on Sunday, improving to 31-13 on the season and 9-3 in ACC play.
Virginia stuck first in both games Saturday, but it was the Tar Heels got on the board early in game three. Elisha Elliott started things off with a single to second base and advanced when Aquilla Mateen hit a bunt single. Amber Parrish doubled down the left field line to bring in Parrish and Mateen, giving Carolina the early 2-0 lead.
After holding the Cavliers for four innings, Virginia responded with a solo shot to center by Kristen Hawkins in the top of the fifth inning, but the Tar Heels held on for the final two innings for the 2-1 win.
Reaching the 200-strikeout mark in today's game, Lori Spingola tossed all seven innings, recording five Ks and giving up two hits and one run.
UP NEXT
Carolina closes out a 10-game home stand this Wednesday, April 10, as the Tar Heels host Elon at 6 p.m. UNC then travels to Raleigh for a series next weekend against NC State on April 13 and 14.
