Game 6: Florida Atlantic 3, North Carolina 2
Florida Atlantic Head
Coach John McCormack
Opening Statement
"I thought that was a fabulous college baseball game by both
sides. We were fortunate enough, or Ricky was fortunate enough, to hit the home
run. We capitalized on an error and a walk and hit the home run. But I can't
say enough about our guys who pitched really, really well, played very good
defense. Just gotta do it all again tomorrow."
On possibility of
Sylvestri pitching tomorrow:
"No, I know he will be available. He would not let us not
make him available. He's one of the greatest competitors we've ever had in my
23 years at FAU. And he would tell you if he couldn't pitch and he's not gonna
say that."
Sophomore 3B Ricky Santiago
On what Levi
whispered in his ear before his home run at-bat:
"He told me that the pitcher's delivery is kind of weird,
and that he steps right at you. He just told me to get my foot down early and
make sure that I'm not surprised. He told me he had a good slider so that's why
I was kind of sitting on it."
Senior P Michael Sylvestri
On emotions of going
to elimination game:
"Well, it was going up and down. We had a good game the
first game, it was close the whole time. And then obviously this game was
really close. But we played a bunch of doubleheaders this year with rainouts
and everything, we were just kind of used to it being in South Florida and we
just had to keep our composure, keep our heads in the game and just keep
everybody up."
North Carolina Head Coach Mike Fox
Opening Statement:
"Well, the good news is we get to play again tomorrow night.
We're going to focus on that and try to put this one behind us as quickly as we
can, and be ready to play tomorrow night."
On the hit
differential:
"I don't focus on the hit column. They got the big hit, the
three-run homer. It's a little unusual to look at that and see that many hits
[in a loss], but theirs was a big one. I'm glad they got two more. It would
have been really frustrating to look at that box score with only one hit
winning the game. I would have never seen that before."
Senior OF Chaz Frank
On being stranded on
base multiple times:
"As a leadoff hitter and a senior it's my job to get on
base. I really can't think about what the guys are doing behind me. I just have
to focus on my job and try to get on base. It was just a tough night for us. We
left a lot of guys on base and hopefully we can do better tomorrow."
On tomorrow night
potentially being his last game as a Tar Heel:
"I don't look at it that way. I'm not focused on that at
all. I'm just going to come out here and try to win, try to get these guys
ready to go and get the win. I'm not looking at it like it's my last game
because I don't believe it is."
Junior P Hobbs Johnson
On if he wanted to
stay in the game with a no-hitter going:
"I always want to stay in, but my control was an issue all
day. I had five walks and one included in that inning that allowed them to go
up by one."
On if the error in
the bottom of the sixth impacted his confidence:
"No, not at all. Errors happen, hits happen. It was just one
of those things where I just needed to bounce back and I didn't make the
pitches I needed to until later on."
