Monroe Wins ATP Doubles Crown In Sweden

BASTAD, SWEDEN - Nicholas Monroe and Simon Stadler captured their first ATP WORLD doubles title on Sunday afternoon at the SkiStar Swedish Open in Bastad, Sweden. Monroe and Stadler defeated Argentina's Carlos Berlocq and Spain's Albert Ramos 6-2, 3-6, 10-3. Berlocq also won the singles portion of the tournament earlier in the day.
Monroe and Stadler did not drop a set until the final, defeating the top seeded team of Lindstedt/Nestor en route to the title. The American and German earned a winner's check of $31,085 U.S. dollars and 250 ATP points.
First pairing together in February, 2012, Monroe/Stadler found success from the outset, winning the ITF Pro Circuit Challenger in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. Later that year, the pair also won ATP Futures events in Milan, Italy and Medellin, Colombia both on red clay.
Most recently, Monroe and Stadler won a round in the main draw at Wimbledon. In March, they won an ATP Futures title in Prostejov, Czech Republic and reached their first ATP WORLD final in February at the Buenos Aires, Argentinian Open.
Monroe could ascend to his highest world doubles ranking next week. He is currently 70th, with a career high rank of 67th. Monroe, a 2004 University of North Carolina graduate, earned All-America honors and was awarded the prestigious Arthur Ashe Mideast Region Leadership/Sportsmanship award during his Tar Heel career.
