Heels Selected 2nd In ACC Preseason Poll

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The North Carolina men's soccer team has been selected to finish second in the Atlantic Coast Conference, according to a vote by the league's head coaches.
The Tar Heels received 122 votes, while Maryland was tabbed as the preseason favorite with 142 points after receiving 10 of the 12 available first-place votes. Wake Forest and Notre Dame were named third and fourth in the poll with 114 and 110 points, respectively, with both clubs earning one first-place vote.
Virginia was picked in fifth, followed by Clemson in sixth, Duke in seventh, and Boston College in the eighth slot. Syracuse, NC State, Virginia, and Pitt rounded out the preseason voting.
Six ACC teams were ranked in the 2013 NSCAA Men's Soccer Preseason Top 25 released last week. No. 2 Maryland, No. 4 North Carolina, No. 7 Notre Dame, No. 17 Wake Forest, No. 20 Syracuse, and No. 25 Virginia will all enter the 2013 season ranked.
UNC will open the 2013 season on Friday, Aug. 30 against Monmouth at 7:30 p.m., from Fetzer Field. The Heels will also play host to Coastal Carolina on Sunday at 7 p.m. Both games are part of the Carolina Nike Classic.
