Tar Heels Keep Rolling at ITA Qualifying

TULSA, Okla. - Members of the North Carolina men's tennis team combined to tally two singles wins and three doubles wins during ITA All-American Championships qualifying draws on Tuesday at Case Tennis Center.
Sophomore Jack Murray and freshman Robert Kelly both advanced to the final round of the singles bracket with second-round victories. Murray dominated Cal Poly's Ben Donovan 6-4, 6-0 to punch his ticket to the draw's final sixteen. Kelly stayed undefeated as a Tar Heel with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Mississippi's William Kallberg, who is ranked 104th nationally.
In the doubles draw, junior Brett Clark and senior Oystein Steiro collected wins in the first two rounds to move on to third round action. The duo earned a 6-4, 7-6(6) straight-set triumph over Nate Lammons and Arkadijs Slobodkins of Southern Methodist in the first round. Steiro and Clark then defeated Purdue's Diego Acosta and Ricky Medinilla (seeded 9-16) in a match tiebreaker, 6-1, 6-7(7), 1-0(6) to advance to the draw's third round.
The other Tar Heel doubles pair, sophomores Ronnie Schneider and Jack Murray, cruised to a 6-1, 6-4 victory against Texas' Adrien Berkowicz and George Goldhoff in their first round match.
Wednesday's slate of singles matches will determine who moves on to the main draw. Murray will face off against Florida State's Marco Nunez, and Kelly will take on Louisville's No. 110 Sebastian Stiefelmeyer.
In Wednesday's doubles action, Schneider and Murray will battle Mississippi State's Julian Cash and Florian Lakat for a spot in the third round.
