Six Tar Heels Advance to Round of 32 at ITA Carolinas

CARY, N.C. - Six players from the North Carolina men's tennis team navigated through the first two rounds of the singles draw at the ITA Carolinas Regional on Thursday at Cary Tennis Complex.
Carolina sophomore Brayden Schnur, ranked No. 7 nationally and the top seed in the draw, received a bye in the first round before defeating Wake Forest's Anthony Delcore 6-2, 6-2 in the second round. Fellow sophomore Ronnie Schneider, the No. 2 seed, also enjoyed a first-round bye. The Indiana native went on to claim a hard-earned 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 over Clemson's Daffra Sanon in the Round of 64.
Junior Brett Clark, ranked No. 52 nationally and the No. 7 seed, dominated North Carolina A&T's Kyle Scott 6-1, 6-0 in his first round match. The Naples, Fla. native proceeded to oust UNC-Wilmington's Zach Hubltiz 7-6(3), 6-2 to reserve his spot in the Round of 32.
Another Tar Heel sophomore, No. 16 seed Jack Murray, claimed his spot in the Round of 32 by blanking Ramon Simonetti of South Carolina Upstate 6-0, 6-0 in his first round match. He then advanced past Clemon's Drake Hampton, who retired trailing 7-5, 5-5.
Senior Oystein Steiro (No. 17-32 seed) joined his teammates in the Round of 32 with consecutive triumphs over N.C. Central's Daniil Gerasimov and College of Charleston's Zack Lewis.
Two Tar Heels - freshman Robert Kelly (No. 17-32 seed) and junior Connor Daly - fell in first round action. Carolina's No. 52 Brett Clark (No. 7 seed) was edged by UNC-Wilmington's Zack Hublitz in the second round.
