October 18, 2014 | Baseball
Durham, N.C. -- Hunter Williams tossed a complete game, and Ryder Ryan and Michael Massardo both homered to lead the Blue team to a 5-3 win over over Navy on Friday night at the DBAP.
Navy took a 1-0 lead in the first on Tyler Ramirez's sacrifice fly, then Blue tied the game at 1-1 as Logan Warmoth drove in a run on a fielder's choice in the third.
Blue then rode the long ball for three runs in the fourth. Ryder Ryan hit a solo shot over the Blue Monster in left, then Michael Massardo drilled a two-run homer to right center.
Trailing 5-1 in the bottom of the seventh, Navy made things interesting. Adam Pate's fielder's choice drove in a run, then Alex Raburn made it 5-3 with a run-scoring double to left center. Later in the inning, with runners on first and second, Hunter Williams got Adrian Chacon to strike out looking on a 3-2 slider to end the game.
Hunter Williams picked up the win by giving up two earned runs while striking out seven and walking four in 7.0 innings of work.
The teams will play again on Saturday at noon at Boshamer Stadium, then on Sunday at 6:00 p.m. at the historic Durham Athletic Park. Both games are free and open to the public.
