October 18, 2014 | Women's Rowing
UNC took ninth in the Club 4+ event at the Head of the Charles regatta Saturday, racing on the Charles River in Boston as part of the world's largest two-day rowing competition. The Tar Heels finished in 19:06.85 over the three-mile course.
Racing in the Carolina four were coxswain Sarah Eastley, stroke Victoria McGee, Chelsea Gustafson, Elise Widman, and bow Egan Berne.
"They are competitors and they raced hard all the way down the course," UNC coach Sarah Haney said. "It was just a great experience for them and we are very proud of their accomplishment.
"We also had some alumnae come watch us as well as some current teammates make the trip on their own, so we were happy to see so many familiar faces cheering us on. We had an absolutely great weekend."
Fordham won the race in a time of 18:19.19 and four other college programs finished ahead of UNC in a field that also included clubs. Wisconsin was third, Boston University fifth, Clemson seventh and Connecticut eighth. Several other Atlantic Coast Conference crews were also in the race, with Miami finishing 11th and Boston College 18th in the field of 59.
