UNC Wins Singles & Doubles Titles At ITA Regionals

The first match of the day was the doubles final that pitted North Carolina's Ashley Dai and Kate Vialle against South Carolina's Hadley Berg and Elixane Lechemia.
The Gamecocks duo took the opening set 6-4, but the No. 3 seed from Chapel Hill answered right back by winning set two 6-3 and then completely dominated the third set super breaker, 10-5, to win the doubles title.
Dai and Vialle earn a spot in the ITA National Indoor Championship field that takes place Nov. 6-9 in Flushing Meadows, N.Y.
As the doubles match was coming to an end on court one, the singles finale began between second seed Caroline Price and Clemson's Joana Eidukonyte on court three.
Price fell behind 0-3, before running off five-straight points and would cruise to a 6-4 win in the opening set.
The second set saw Price jump out to a 3-1 lead, but Eidukonyte rallied to take a 5-3 advantage. However, Price ran off the next three points to lead 6-5 and had the opportunity to serve out the match, but Clemson forced a second-set tiebreaker.
Eidukonyte led 2-0, before Price scored the final seven points in the breaker to secure a spot in New York with the 6-4, 7-6(2) victory.
Price joins teammates Jamie Loeb and Hayley Carter, the No. 1 and 3 ranked players nationally, in the singles draw at the Billie Jean King Tennis Center. Both Loeb and Carter previously qualified for national indoors.
The Tar Heels next compete in the USTA Disney Invitational Oct. 30-Nov. 2 in Orlando, Fla.
