Women Golfers Stand In 12th Approaching Day Three

WILMINGTON, N.C. - The Tar Heels stand in 12th place approaching the final day of play in the Landfall Tradition with a 15-over 591. North Carolina has two players, Bryana Nguyen and Leslie Cloots, heading the team with a 1-over 145.
The pair of tied Tar Heels, Nguyen and Cloots, is tied in 18th place with a 1-over 145. Freshman Nguyen, of Columbia, Md., fired three bogeys and two birdies in round two play for a 1-under 71 to add to her round one score of a 2-over 74. Cloots, a sophomore from Antwerp, Belgium, carded a 2-over 74 in day two with four birdies, in addition to her 1-under 71 from day one.
Also registering a 2-over 74 in round two, Lexi Harkins stands in a tie for 36th with a 3-over 147. Harkins, a freshman of Crystal Lake, Ill., scored three birdies and five bogeys and added to her day one score of a 1-over 73. Senior Maia Schechter landed in 75th place with a 10-over 154 overall score. Schechter, a native of Takoma Park, Md., recorded six bogeys and a double bogey for an 8-over 80 day two score, adding to her 2-over 74 day one score.
One stroke behind is teammate Elizabeth Mallett with an 11-over-par 155. Mallett, a junior from Sutton Coldfield, England, scored an 8-over 80 in the first round, a 3-over 75 in the second round, and is approaching the final day of play in 79th place. North Carolina also registered one individual, sophomore Rachel Jones, who stands in 85th place. Jones, of Asheboro, N.C., carded 8-over 80 day one, 5-over 77 day two and finished with a 13-over 157 overall score.
No. 11 Wake Forest and No. 15 Oklahoma State are tied for first with a 1-under 575. Purdue and Virginia are neck and neck in third with a 2-over 578. Florida, Alabama and South Carolina stand in a tie for fifth with a 4-over 580. Notre Dame is in lone eighth with a 6-over 582, and UCF is in lone ninth with a 7-over 583. Tennessee registered an 8-over 684 and Duke recorded a 10-over 586 for 10th and 11th, respectively. North Carolina and NC State stand together in 12th place with a 15-over 591.
Ashley Holder, of UCF, took hold of first place with a 7-under 173. South Carolina's Nanna Madsen follows closely with a 6-under 138 for second place. Alabama's Emma Talley stands in third with a 4-under 140. Tennessee's A.J. Newell and Wake Forest's Allison Emrey are tied for fourth with a 3-under 141. In a three-way tie for sixth are Virginia's Lauren Diaz-Yi and Elizabeth Szokol and Purdue's Aurora Kan with a 2-under 142. There is also a tie for ninth with a 1-under 144 between UCF's Monifa Sealy, NC State's Lindsay McGetrick and Oklahoma State's Linna Johansson and Isabella Deilert.
The Landfall Tradition, a 54-hole event on the par 72, 6,244-yard layout Pete Dye Course, will continue through Sunday. Live scoring will be available on GoHeels.com and Golfstat.com.
