Perry Surges Up Leaderboard At LPGA Qualifying Stage II

VENICE, FLA. - Former University of North Carolina golfer Katherine Perry surges up the leaderboard to a tie for fifth place at the LPGA Qualifying Tournament Stage II. Another former Tar Heel, Catherine O'Donnell, is tied for 64th place.
Perry jumped from a tie for 34th to a tie for fifth in the third round by firing a 5-under-par 67 on the Panther Course at Plantation Golf and Country Club. She boasts a 4-under 212 total after earlier rounds of 75 (Bobcat) and 70 (Panther). O'Donnell fired a 1-over 73 on the Panther Course for a 4-over 220 total after earlier rounds of 75 (Bobcat) and 72 (Panther). There is a three-way tie for the lead at 8-under 208 between Su Oh, Alison Lee and Ginger Howard.
Perry, who was a starter for the Tar Heels the last four years and now a volunteer assistant coach, advanced to the Stage II Qualifying after tying for fourth place at the LPGA Qualifying Tournament Stage I. Perry, a 2012 All-ACC performer, was second on the team last year with a 75.03 stroke average. She was a starter in all 10 of Carolina's tournaments last year, carding five top-30 finishes. Perry tied for fifth place at the ACC Championships and tied for 15th at the NCAA Central Regional.
O'Donnell, from Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., was a four-time All-ACC performer and an All-America performer at Carolina and was selected the ACC Freshman of the Year in 2009. She won three collegiate tournaments and won a 2013 SunCoast Ladies Tour event. She had played on the Symetra Tour the last two years and has carded four top-10 finishes. O'Donnell participated in the 2014 U.S. Women's Open in Pinehurst. She was a gold medal winner at the 2010 University World Championships and represented Team USA in the 2011 University World Games.
The final round of the LPGA Qualifying Tournament Stage II will be played Friday. Both Perry and O'Donnell will play the Bobcat course in the final round.
