CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The North Carolina gymnastics team will conduct a Blue/White intra-squad exhibition on Sunday, Nov. 23 at 2:30 p.m. in Carmichael Arena. The event is open to the public and is free of charge.
"We're excited about the upcoming season and looking forward to performing in front of our outstanding fans," said head coach Derek Galvin. "Our team has been practicing hard this fall in the gym, the weight room and in the classroom to have the best season we can have in 2015. Coach (Amy) Smith and I are proud of the work they've done."
Led by senior all-around standout Haley Watts, the Tar Heels return 10 letterwinners from last year and welcome six newcomers to the program. Watts earned first-team All-EAGL honors in the all-around and on uneven bars and was a second-team selection on vault and floor in 2014. She is joined by All-EAGL performers Lexi Cappalli (floor, all-around), Janell Sargent (beam) and Megan Marenghi (beam).
The newcomers are freshman Kaitlynn Hedelund, sophomore transfer Ashley Landry, freshman Morgan Lane, freshman Lindsey Lemke, freshman Emily Schein and freshman Lauren Weisel.
In addition to the exhibition, UNC Campus Rec is offering a "Kids Rock" event with the gymnastics team for the children of UNC faculty & staff on Saturday, Nov. 22 from 10 a.m.-noon. Information and sign-up is available through the Campus Recreation office.
