Engel Honored On CSN Team Of The Week
November 24, 2014 | Men's Soccer
Senior forward Tyler Engel was named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week after scoring both goals in Sunday's 2-1 win over Charlotte in the second round of the NCAA Men's Soccer Championship.
From Orland Park, Ill., Engel is now second on the North Carolina team in scoring in 2014 with 19 points on seven goals and five assists.
Engel struck midway into the first half from close range to give Carolina a 1-0 lead that would continue into halftime.
Charlotte got the equalizer on an own goal in the 53rd minute, but Engel would not be denied in playing the role of the hero on a rain-soaked afternoon in Charlotte, N.C.
Fellow senior striker Andy Craven started the game's deciding play with a shot that ricocheted off the cross bar that went directly to the foot of Engel. He would calmly hit the back of the net, sending the team into a wild celebration with just over a minute left in regulation.
North Carolina (14-5-1) will play the winner of Monday's Clemson-Coastal Carolina match that will kick off at 6 p.m. in Clemson, S.C.
