Postgame Notes - NC State
November 29, 2014 | Football
NC State 35, North Carolina 7
November 29, 2014
• The loss drops the Tar Heels to 6-6 on the season and 4-4 in the ACC's Coastal Division.
• Carolina was shut out in the first half for the first time under head coach Larry Fedora. The last time Carolina was shut out in a half was the second half at Georgia Tech in 2013, a span of 23 games.
• The 28-point margin was the largest in the series since the Wolfpack beat the Tar Heels, 41-10, in Chapel Hill in 2008.
• WR Quinshad Davis tied a Carolina career record with his 21st touchdown reception. Davis caught a 13-yard pass from Mitch Trubisky in the fourth quarter for Carolina's only touchdown of the game. Davis and Hakeem Nicks are tied with 21 career touchdown catches.
• The seven points are the fewest scored by Carolina in Larry Fedora's three seasons as head coach. Previous low was 10 against South Carolina in the 2013 season opener in Columbia.
• UNC's previous low point total this season was 17 in a 34-17 home loss to Virginia Tech.
• NC State rushed for 388 yards, the fourth time this year an opponent has rushed for 300 yards (388 NC State, 376 Georgia Tech, 343 East Carolina, 305 Pitt). That is the most rushing yards by an opponent since Maryland had 388 in a 59-7 win over Carolina on November 2, 2002.
• The Tar Heels gained a season-low 207 yards (previous low was 258 at Miami).
• Mitch Trubisky came on in relief of injured starting quarterback Marquise Williams and completed his fourth touchdown pass of the season.
• Williams was 11 for 22 for 97 yards and rushed 16 times (including three sacks) for 11 yards. It was the second time this season he was not responsible for a touchdown (also at East Carolina). The 97 passing yards were his fewest since he had 92 at NC State last year.
• Williams added to his single-season total offense school record and now has 3,607 yards this year. He moved ahead of Jason Stanicek in career passing yards (4,695) for fifth place in UNC history. He also moved ahead of Stanicek for fourth place in career completions with 381. He has 245 completions this year, which moves him into third place in UNC single-season history in that category.
