Papa Announces 2015 Softball Schedule

Entering her 30th season as head coach of the Tar Heels, Donna Papa announced today the softball schedule for the 2015 season. The campaign features two tournaments played at home in Anderson Stadium and matchups with a 2014 Women's College World Series participant and 10 other teams that played in the 2014 NCAA Tournament.
“We're really excited about the schedule that we have and every year when I look to put a schedule together I want us to play some of the best competition there is so that we're tested and we're tested early, hopefully we're tested in the middle of the season so that we can get ready for the end of the season and postseason” said Coach Papa.
UNC opens the year with the Kajikawa Tournament February 6-8 in Tempe, AZ, and a matchup with 2014 Women's College World Series participant Oregon. The Ducks are coming off of a school record 56-win season, finishing the year ranked no. 3 in the NFCA Poll after spending six weeks at no. 1 before losing to Alabama and eventual champion Florida in the WCWS. Carolina will also face 2014 NCAA Super Regional teams Northwestern and Bradley in Tempe.
Their next tournament will take them to Columbia, S.C. for the Gamecock Invitational where North Carolina will play host South Carolina who are coached by Tar Heel great and 1994 ACC Player of the Year Beverly Smith.
The hall of fame coach and her team will host the Tar Heel Invitational from February 20-22. The weekend will feature matchups against Fairleigh Dickinson, Lehigh, Radford, and Campbell. They will hold the Carolina Classic from March 5-8, hosting Texas, Ohio University and UNC Charlotte.
The other 2014 NCAA Tournament teams Carolina will clash with in 2015 are Texas, James Madison, USC Upstate and ACC rivals N.C. State, Virginia Tech, Notre Dame and newcomer Louisville.
