Hovis, Thornton Earn Preseason All-America Honors

TUCSON, Ariz. --- North Carolina junior right-handers Reilly Hovis and Trent Thornton were named to the 2015 Louisville Slugger Preseason All-America third team as selected by Collegiate Baseball, the national news site announced Friday.
A first-team All-ACC selection in 2014, Hovis was one of the nation's top relievers as a sophomore. The Gastonia, North Carolina, native finished 9-1 with a 2.25 ERA and six saves in 64.0 innings. Hovis struck out 81 batters and walked just 24 while allowing opponents to hit just .194 for the season.
Thornton was outstanding in his first season as a weekend starter. The Charlotte, North Carolina, product was 7-4 with a 2.73 ERA and a team-high 83 strikeouts in 95.2 innings. Thornton allowed just seven extra-base hits and limited opponents to a .219 batting average.
Hovis, Thornton and the Tar Heels open the 2015 season at Boshamer Stadium Feb. 13 against Seton Hall.
