Golfers Stand In 13th At Northrop Grumman

PALOS VERDES, CALIF. - After the second round of the Northrop Grumman Challenge, hosted by Ohio State University, The University of North Carolina women's golf team sits in 13th place. Carolina carded an 18-over-par 302 in Monday's second round as well as in Sunday's first round. Senior Katherine Perry led the Tar Heels Monday with a 1-over-par 72 to stand at 7-over heading into the final round.
From Cary, N.C., Perry, after finishing Sunday with a 6-over 77, ended Monday's round in a tie for 29th. Sophomore Elizabeth Mallett , from Sutton Coldfield, England, carded three birdies, six bogeys and a double on the day for her 5-over 76 which also put her tied for 29th after the second round. Samantha Marks, a sophomore from Maitland, Fla., stands tied for 49th at 10-over after a 5-over 76, repeating her Sunday score. Freshman Leslie Cloots from Wilrijk, Antwerp, Belgium,. finished Monday with an 8-over 79 after her 5-over 76 on Sunday, placing her in a tie for 63rd. Senior Jackie Chang, from Scottsdale, Ariz., shot an 78 and is tied for 79th.
After finishing Sunday with a 4-over 288, Southern California brought in the only under-par team round of the day with a 5-under 279 to move into first place with a 1-under 567. UCLA stands in second after a 7-over 291 on Monday, 13-over 581 overall, followed by Duke in third at 16-over 584. Baylor dropped to fourth after holding the first round lead with a 15-over round on Monday, one shot behind Duke at 16-over. Arizona rounds out the top five at 18-over.
Annie Park of Southern California fired another 4-under 67 to keep the individual lead, standing at 8-under overall. Fellow teammate Kyung Kim also shot under par today with a 2-under 69 to stand at 3-under overall. Alexandra Kaui of Oklahoma and Sarah Schober of Florida both stand at 2-under par in a tie for third, followed by Hayley Davis of Baylor with 1-under 70 Monday to stand at 1-under in solo fifth.
The 54-hole event finishes Tuesday with a shotgun start at the Palos Verdes Golf Club which features a par 71, 6,017-yard layout. Live scoring is available on GoHeels.com.
