Carolina Prepped To Open ACC Play At Virginia Tech

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - UNC is set to open ACC play on the road this weekend at Virginia Tech, facing the Hokies Saturday at noon and 2 p.m. and on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Parking
North Carolina parents and fans attending the game should refer to the following parking information courtesy of Virginia Tech athletics:
Fans coming to Saturday's game are asked to be aware of the Virginia Tech men's basketball game (against UNC) at 2:30 p.m. inside Cassell Coliseum, as well as the Big South Indoor Track & Field Championships inside Rector Field House. Men's basketball parking passes for Lot 4 (Softball/Track) will be honored and softball/track fans will not be able to park in that lot. Fans are encouraged to arrive early and park in the Chicken Hill Lot, located on the corner of Southgate and Tech Center Drive. That is Lot 5 on this parking map. Parking is free.
The Matchup
UNC took the series 2-1 over Virginia Tech in 2013. The Tar Heels are 22-13 all-time against the Hokies.
Carolina: The Tar Heels are now 6-7 for the year, following a solid 4-2 showing on the road in California and Hawaii last week. UNC lost to Fullerton on Tuesday, but rebounded with wins over Hawaii, San Jose State and St. Mary's before falling to San Jose State in the tournament championship game. Aquilla Mateen, who was named the Bank of Hawaii Invitational MVP, is on a hot streak, tallying 19 hits and 11 runs with a .442 batting average. Mateen batted .750 on the road last week, scoring five runs for UNC. Amber Parrish (.324) has posted 10 RBIs on 12 hits, including five homers, and Kristen Brown has eight RBIs, seven runs and four home runs. Lori Spingola leads the Tar Heels in the circle with 49 strike outs in 45.2 innings.
Virginia Tech: The Hokies (7-5) were 2-3 at the Easton Bama Bash last week, notching wins over McNeese State and UCF while dropping contests with No. 9 Alabama and McNeese State. Vanessa Gonzalez leads VT with a .393 average, tallying 10 runs and five RBIs for the year, while Amanda Ake has 10 RBIs on 10 hits. Maggie Tyler (3-2) and Kelly Heinz (4-3) have split time in the circle, tallying 61 strike outs between themselves.
