Tar Heels Set To Meet Syracuse In First ACC Matchup

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - North Carolina softball will host conference newcomer Syracuse this weekend in the teams' first ACC meeting.
The Tar Heels and Orange will play a doubleheader Saturday, which has been changed to 3 and 5 p.m., and game three will be Sunday at 1 p.m. Admission is free for all home softball games at Anderson Stadium.

Scouting the Matchup
Carolina is 0-1 against Syracuse, last facing the Orange in 2012. The Tar Heels are 8-9 (2-1 ACC), and Syracuse is 5-10 (0-0 ACC).
Carolina: Aquilla Mateen leads the Tar Heels with 24 hits, 13 runs and six RBIs while hitting .414 for the year. Amber Parrish (.324) and Kati Causey (.313) have 10 RBIs apiece, while Parrish and Kristen Brown have each belted five homers this season so far. Erin Satterfield, who leads the team with a .455 batting average, has nine runs.
Lori Spingola (2.83 ERA) is 4-5 and picked up her first save of the year last weekend at Virginia Tech. She has fanned 60 batters in 64.1 innings in the circle for Carolina. Lauren Batten (2-2) has a 4.42 ERA in 19 innings with 12 strike outs, and Ashley Bone (2.71 ERA) is 1-0 in 20.2 innings.
Syracuse: Julie Wambold (.400) has seven RBIs and 12 hits with nine runs, and Jasmine Watson (.333) has 10 RBIs and six runs with 14 hits, including a team-high four homers. Shirley Daniels is 6-6 on the base path with eight runs scored this year.
Sydney O'Hara is 3-4 with a 2.72 ERA and 36 strike outs in 28 innings. Christina Clermont (5.71 ERA) is 1-1 on the mound with 25 strike outs in 38 innings in the circle, and Lindsay Taylor (4.0 ERA) is 1-3 in 27.2 innings of play.
Last Outings
UNC dropped its first home game of the year to USC Upstate on Thursday, 1-0. Syracuse went 1-4 at the Diamond 9 Citrus Classic in Orlando, Fla., last weekend. The Orange defeated Nebraska-Omaha but dropped games to #17 Missouri, #25 Auburn, Bradley and Fordham.
