Tar Heels Set To Visit No. 1 Virginia

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. ---North Carolina faces a nationally ranked opponent for the first time in 2014 when the Tar Heels visit No. 1 Virginia starting Friday night at 6 at Davenport Field. Carolina is 22-15 and 9-9 in the Atlantic Coast Conference after taking two of three from Wake Forest last weekend and rallying for three runs in the ninth on Wednesday to beat Elon. Virginia is 31-6 and 14-4 in the league following a series win over Clemson last weekend and a midweek victory over William & Mary.

CAROLINA-VIRGINIA SERIES HISTORY
• North Carolina is 178-103-4 all-time against Virginia, including a 29-21 record under head coach Mike Fox.
• Carolina and Virginia have met 285 times in baseball, and with three games this weekend the Cavaliers will become the most common opponent for UNC, surpassing the 286 all-time meetings with NC State.
• Virginia took two of three in Chapel Hill last season, dealing the Tar Heels their only home series loss of 2013.
• Carolina swept the Wahoos the last time the two teams met in Charlottesville. In 2012, UNC won three close games - 2-1 in 10 innings, 6-2 and 5-3 - en route to a Coastal Division title. That sweep was Virginia's last home ACC series loss.
• Virginia won all three games against Carolina in 2010, but the Tar Heels are 7-3 in 10 games against the Cavaliers in the three seasons since then.
