CHAPEL HILL, N.C.- The University of North Carolina women's golf team was one of 72 teams to receive a bid to participate in the NCAA Regionals. The Tar Heels will be playing in the NCAA Central Regional May 8-10. The 54-hole event will be played at Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Okla. In addition to the 72 teams, 18 individuals received a bid to play in the three regionals (East, Central and West). The top eight teams and top two individuals not on those eight teams will advance on to the NCAA Championships to be played May 20-23 at Tulsa Country Club in Tulsa, Okla.
"We are excited to be participating in the NCAA Regionals and competing at Oklahoma State on the Karsten Creek Golf Course," says Tar Heel head coach Jan Mann. "It is a challenging course that will demand a great deal of patience. The team will be working hard this week between exams in preparation for the event."
Nine Atlantic Coast Conference teams received bids to extend their seasons. Carolina (8 seed) is one of two ACC teams at the Central Regional in Oklahoma. Miami is the #10 seed. Four conference teams will participate in the East Regional at SouthWood Golf Club in Tallahassee, Fla. - Duke is the top seed while Virginia (#7 seed), NC State (#8 seed) and host Florida State (#10 seed) will also be in the East.
