Tar Heels Attend World Cup Opening

THE HAGUE - The UNC field hockey team joined an international crowd of fans to witness the opening of the 2014 Rabobank Hockey World Cup Saturday in the Netherlands. At the World Cup venue, located in The Hague, action takes place in two stadiums, with both men and women competing. The festival-like setting also includes stalls and tents selling food, drink, souvenirs and every possible sort of field hockey equipment.
The U.S. women's team, which includes five current and former UNC players, opens World Cup action on Sunday with a matchup against England. All of the U.S. games will air on ESPN3. To watch Sunday's game, click here.

UNC plays its own game on Sunday, taking on a local club team in the afternoon. After spending Saturday at the World Cup venue, the Tar Heels will have a team meal in the evening then a training session in the morning before preparing for the matchup with HDM.
