Mallett Named to All-ACC Women's Golf Team

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - One Tar Heel on the University of North Carolina's women's golf team was selected to the 2014 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Golf Team. Sophomore Elizabeth Mallett is a first-time honoree on the esteemed list.
"It is so exciting to be named to the All-ACC team," commented Mallett. "I have been having a good season so far with four top tens, including my first college tournament win at SMU's golf tournament in Texas where I won by 5 shots! The ACC conference is increasing in strength and depth so it is great that I have been included in the All-ACC honors."
Mallett, a native of Sutton Coldfield, England, has recorded four top-10 finishes in the nine event season, which included a first place finish in the SMU/Dallas Athletic Club Invitational carding a 3-under 141 and leading the team to a third place finish. Mallett took seventh at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate, eighth in the Bryan National Collegiate, and ninth in the ACC Championships. In addition, Mallett also registered another top-20 finish in 17th at the Dale McNamara NCAA Fall Preview and throughout the season has not finished above top-40 in a tournament scoring a finish in 27th place in The Landfall Tradition, in 29th place at he Mason Rudolph Championship, and in 38th place at both the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational and the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge. To date this season, Mallett stands at a 73.54 stroke average, and has recorded one even-par round and three under-par rounds, including two rounds in the 60s with her low being 69 in the second round of the SMU/Dallas Athletic Club Invitational firing a 3-under 69.
Elizabeth Mallett is honored on the 12-person team with Duke's Laetitia Beck, Celine Boutier, and Yu Liu; Florida State's Matilda Castren and Alex Milan; Miami's Daniela Darquea; NC State's Augusta James and Brittany Marchand; Clemson's Ashlan Ramsey and Sloan Shanahan; and Maryland's Juliet Vongphoumy. Duke swept the individual honors this year with sophomore Celine Boutier being named ACC Women's Golfer of the Year, Yu Liu being names ACC Women's Freshman of the Year, and head coach of the Blue Devils, Dan Brooks, being named ACC Women's Golf Coach of the Year for the 14th time. The No. 22 ranked Tar Heels will play in the NCAA Central Regional in Stillwater, Okla. this Friday through Sunday.
