The opening of Carolina's 2014 football campaign against Liberty at 6:00 will give fans a chance to see the progress Larry Fedora and his team have made over the past year. The opening home game will also allow fans to experience the new and improved changes that the UNC Athletic Department has brought to the Kenan Stadium game day experience. “We're not trying to do one or two big new things, but we are trying to enhance everything we do,” said UNC Senior Associate Athletic Director Rick Steinbacher.
Many of the traditions fans are familiar with will continue, including the Victory Walk, Tar Heel Town, and tailgating, but a handful of technology, entertainment, and visual enhancements have been added to boost the Carolina game day experience.
What's new to the Kenan Stadium experience in 2014:
•Live bands have been booked to provide entertainment at the revamped Tar Heel Town for the first two games. Below the Line, a band led by a group of UNC freshmen, will provide the pregame music before the Liberty game.
•University groups will join the Ram's Club by hosting gatherings on the Genome Plaza overlooking Tar Heel Town, which should result in bigger crowds in the area.
•More night games will allow fans to experience the fullness of the Kenan experience by exploring Franklin Street, the Carolina Inn, and the rest of what the town of Chapel Hill has to offer for a full weekend of entertainment.
•New video elements and beats during the game will be shown over the video board. Tweets by the official UNC-Chapel Hill twitter account have hinted that Charles Kuralt's famous quote will be featured in one of the new videos.
•More social media based opportunities will be offered in order to allow fans to interact more with the video board features.
•Ben & Jerry's ice cream will now offer concessions inside the stadium.
