Tar Heels 8th At Lady Paladin Invitational

GREENVILLE, S.C. - The Carolina women's golf team fired a 10-over-par 298 in the second round of the Lady Paladin Invitational and is tied for 8th place with a 17-over 593 total. Two Tar Heels, Maia Schechter and Lexi Harkins, both fired a 2-over 74 to lead the way for Carolina on day two of the three-day event.
Schechter, a senior from Takoma Park, Md., carded three birdies and five bogeys en route to her 2-over 74 while Harkins, a freshman from Crystal Lake, Ill., posted two birdies and four bogeys. Harkens is tied for 27th place in the individual race while Schechter is tied for 33rd. Leslie Cloots and Bryana Nguyen both shot a 3-over 75 and are tied for 14th place at 3-over 147. Cloots, a sophomore from Antwerp, Belgium, carded two birdies, three bogeys and one double-bogey while Nguyen, a freshman from Columbia, Md., posted one birdie and four bogeys. Junior Elizabeth Mallett, from Sutton Coldfield, England, shot a 5-over 77 on Monday for an 11-over 155 total and is tied for 63rd place. Sophomore Rachel Jones is competing as an individual and fired an even par 72 in the second round. The Asheboro, N.C. native carded four birdies and four bogeys en route to her 72 and is tied for 53rd place with a 153 total.
Host Furman leads the field of 18 team after firing an even par 288 on Monday for a 2-under 574 total. Wake Forest and Texas Tech are tied for 2nd place at 7-over 583 while Florida State and Kansas are tied for 4th at 11-over 587. Yale is in 6th place at 14-over 590, Kennesaw State is 7th at 15-over 591 and Carolina is 8th at 17-over 593. East Carolina and Coastal Carolina round out the top 10 and are tied for 9th at 22-over 598.
Taylor Totland of Furman fired a 4-under-par 68 to grab the individual lead at 6-under 138. Jennifer Peng of Yale and Sierra Sims of Wake Forest are tied for 2nd place at 5-under 139 and Gennal Goodwin of Texas Tech and Allison Emrey of Wake Forest are tied for 4th at 2-under 142. Ines Lescudier of Kennesaw State is alone in sixth place at 1-under 143 while Furman's Valentino Romero and Texas Tech's Sarah Brown are tied for 7th place at even par 144.
The final round of the 54-hole event will be played Tuesday at Furman University Golf Club, which features a par 72, 6,266-yard layout. There will be a shotgun start for the final round beginning at 9 a.m. and live scoring will be available on GoHeels.com.
