Schoettmer's Ryder Cup Connection
September 26, 2014 | Football
North Carolina junior linebacker Jeff Schoettmer is a friend of PGA golfer Jordan Spieth, who is set to play in his first career Ryder Cup match Friday morning. Spieth and Schoettmer grew up playing football, baseball, basketball and of course, golf, while growing up together in the Dallas area. Both attended Jesuit College Prep.
In this piece by Turner Walston, Schoettmer talks about playing sports with Jordan as kids.
"Growing up we used to always play football, basketball and baseball together, and then he was always golfing on the side," Schoettmer recalls. "Me and my best friend Brian Wetzel, who plays football at Fordham University, we would always go play golf with Jordan in the summer, and we beat Jordan once. It was me and Brian against Jordan, so we like to tell people that. Jordan doesn't really take credit for it, but he knows he lost."
Let's hope neither Schoettmer or Jordan loses this weekend.
