Chapel Hill, N.C. -- The Navy squad scored two runs in the first inning and held on for a 2-1 win over Blue in a 7 1/2 inning scrimmage on Tuesday afternoon at chilly Boshamer Stadium.
Brooks Kennedy and Adam Pate each had an RBI single in the two-run first. Michael Massardo's single drove in Alex Raburn in the eighth for Blue's only run.
Navy had eight hits to five for Blue. Josh Merrigan had two singles, the only player with multipe base hits.
Hansen Butler and Taylore Cherry were the starters. Zach Rice, Trevor Kelley, Jack Geraghty and Jackson Bellenkes threw in relier. Butler got the win, Cherry took the loss and Geraghty was credited with a save.
The Heels next closed scrimmage will be on Sunday.
