January 6, 2015 | Volleyball
CHAPEL HILL, N.C.- The conclusion of the 2014 season marks the end of four incredible Tar Heel athletic careers as Chaney LaReau, Lauren McAdoo, Chaniel Nelson and Ece Taner finish their time with Carolina volleyball as one of the most outstanding classes in school history.
The four seniors helped lead UNC to 106 wins, a .821 winning percentage and four-straight NCAA tournament berths during their time in Chapel Hill. The quartet spurred the Tar Heels to new heights in 2014, as the ACC Champions reached a program-high ranking of No. 7 in the AVCA Coaches Poll and No. 5 in the NCAA RPI.
In addition, the team finished its season in style by reaching the NCAA Regional Final for the first time in school history.
This week, GoHeels.com will look back at the careers and achievements of each player and the impact they have had on the Carolina volleyball program.

Chaney LaReau has been a consistent serving and defensive specialist for the Tar Heels, providing a spark for the team in matches and practice during her four years. She played in 22 sets during the Tar Heels' record season and recorded 10 digs as a serving substitution. LaReau's 2014 highlights include a season-high three digs in a start against Wake Forest (11/28/14) to clinch the ACC Championship, and two digs late to help close the match against West Virginia (9/20/14).
For her career, LaReau has provided depth at the libero and setter positions for Carolina. She has seen action in 108 sets throughout her four years, with 29 career digs and seven career service aces as a strong sub for Carolina off the bench. Her career highs include three aces versus Cincinnati on Sept 7, 2013 and three digs against Wake Forest and against Long Beach State (8/25/12).
LaReau developed into an outstanding teammate while at Carolina, respected by her fellow players and coaches for her combination of hard work and humor. She is a 2012 recipient of the Jean E. Kindy Memorial Award, selected annually by the coaching staff.
From an athletic family, LaReau completed her high school education at Deep Run High School in Glen Allen, Va. where she was a multi-sport athlete and the All-Metro Girls Volleyball Player of the Year.
LaReau will graduate from North Carolina in May and receive her degree in journalism.
