James Partners With Single Fathers Due To Cancer
October 16, 2015 | Football
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - North Carolina football student coach Jarrod James has developed a program to recognize Single Fathers Due To Cancer at this weekend's cancer awareness game vs. Wake Forest.
James, who played for the Tar Heels in 2012 and 2013, took a medical hardship following his sophomore season due to complications from a neck injury. Despite his shortened playing career James has always been a leader in UNC's outreach projects.
"I realized I could make a difference because of my role as a student-athlete," said James. "I became inspired with all the community outreach we do at Carolina and I thought this would be a good idea for our Cancer Awareness game."
James will bring approximately 20 fathers and their families to Saturday's game where they will be hosted by members of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. The families will be recognized at the end of the first quarter.
The mission of Single Fathers Due To Cancer is to help single fathers cope with the loss of their wife or partner, help them meet the demands of sole parenthood, and manage their children's grief.
